Remember sniglets? Do you have any favorites? Have you ever made up your own word? (Now's as good a time as any.)
Ogay. I'm not sure what it means but you can use it in place of "okay" when you don't really mean it.
Jenny has a really good word that I love: schluff. Schluffs are somewhere between a nap and a full on night-time sleeping session. Most schluffs are taken during daylight hours but are deeper and a bit more hardcore than a typical nap. I often get voicemails from her saying "I hope you're not taking a schluff but..."
Update: I just found out shluff is yiddish for nap. Jenny's not as cool as I thought.
Everytime I log onto flickr someone has new pictures of the Corpse Flower that is blooming at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden. It looks to me like that thing should be stuffed and fried up and fed to the homeless of New York, so I whipped up a recipe for Corpse Flower Fritter stuffed with Herbed Cheese.
When you were younger, were there any game shows that you religiously watched and wanted to be a contestant on?
NO WHAMMIES NO WHAMMIES BIG BUCKS STOP!
ok, i didn't really want to be on it. i just liked watching people yell NO WHAMMIES NO WHAMMIES! i don't even remember the name of this game show.
last night i saw a bug that kinda looked like a medium sized roach crawl across my floor. it was moving slower than a roach though. i grabbed an empty glass and trapped it until i gathered up the courage to capture it and release it outside... or kill it. well a few hours later i decided to check on it and there were about 15 tiny white bugs in there! i almost puked, then decided to do some googling. couldn't find much except some beetles that carry mites, but these bugs looked larger than mites, but it's also possible the glass is magnifying them. so i went to bed and tried not to think about them. now this morning i checked on the glass and the small white bugs are now dark! what is it???? how do i get rid of it? i don't want to lift up the glass and have all the baby bugs run out everywhere. i'm considereing cementing the glass to my floor.
What was the first movie you remember seeing in a movie theater?
Question submitted by mainmor.
My mom took me to see some Disney movie, but then we snuck into see Grease II right after it. I don't remember what Disney movie it was. I only remember Stephanie Zinone wanting a C-O-O-L R-I-D-E-R. Then we came home and I renenacted the Cool Rider musical number, using our stationary bike as the ladder she climbs over.
If you had a band, what would you call yourselves?
Question submitted by Zoot.
The Straight As
We'd be an all girl asian pop band that sings about taiwanese street food like stinky tofu and oyster omelettes and how math is fun.
If you could be on any reality TV show, which one would you pick and why?
Project Runway. It's unbelievable how the creative processes of all of these designers are revealed in a one hour show. Love it.
Also, I want to stalk Tim Gunn.
What's your cell phone's ringtone?
Theme song from Zelda.
What made you pick it?
Duh.
Who is your favorite Muppet? Why?
QotD submitted by knitwitology.vox.com.
I didn't watch the muppets. So none of them. I could only watch 1 hour of tv a day when I was a kid so I chose Woody Woodpecker in the morning before school and then the Carol Burnett show in the evening when I got home.
What's the strongest association you have between a scent and a memory?
1. To this day I still remember the smell of my orthodontist's office. I got braces when I was really young (8) because I had an underbite and had to wear a headgear (this is where I insert a photo of me wearing my headgear but sadly no photo like that exists). I don't ever smell that smell now because I don't go to the orthodontist anymore and am never in an environment that has that same smell, but after I got my braces off I would go back every 6 months in highschool to get my retainer adjusted and the smell while walking up the stairs took me back to when I was 8 years old. It always left a huge impression on me, I'm not sure why. Maybe because I'm a bit of a mentalist about my teeth.
2. The smell of Jester dormitory at UT where I lived for 2 years. I occasionally do contract work for the Harry Ransom Center or Utopia and if I don't take the bus to campus that day I'll park in the garage behind Jester and shortcut through Jester lobby. Man does it stink.
